In the past, Microsoft used to have a default software called Movie Maker on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 that allowed users to edit the video pretty well even if you are a beginner in video editing. It was one of the best free video editors available on any platform to edit and create videos for Youtube, Facebook, Vimeo, and for personal purposes too.
Movie Maker had a lot of customer love and has a huge fan base. And on January 10, 2017, Windows Movie Maker was officially discontinued by Microsoft and its service had been unavailable since then on Windows 7 and Windows 8. After that many people used to think there is no free video editing software like Movie Maker that comes with default Windows.
But in reality, there is still a free video editor app that Microsoft is providing us. This free video editor comes with Windows 10 only and doesn’t support Windows 7 or Windows 8. To use this free video editor app by Microsoft, you have to upgrade your Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10. In fact, this free video editor is included with the default Photo app in Windows 10. So many of the users using Windows 10 still don’t know about this free video editor app. Literally, you have to use the Photos app in Windows 10 to edit videos like Movie Maker.
How To Use Free Video Editor In Windows 10?
Let’s know step-by-step how you can use the Photo app in Windows 10 to edit your videos.
1. Launch Video Editor
The first question is if there is a free video editor in Windows 10, then how can you open it? You can launch or open a Video Editor in Windows 10 either by directly searching the name “Video Editor” in Search Bar or by opening Photo App.
Type Video Editor in the search field of the taskbar on your Windows, and open it.
2. Give Name To Your Project
When you will open it you will get the opening overview of Video Editor. And from there you have to give a name to your video project that you are going to make. After giving the name to your project, press Enter and you will get to see the interference of Video Editor of Windows 10 that will somehow remind you of Movie Maker.
The interface of the Video Editor app of Windows 10 is quite simple to use the same as Movie Maker.
3. Import Photos And Videos
Import the media files like photos and videos that you want to use in your project. To import videos or photos, you have to click on the ADD button, and after that, you will be able to import videos either from your computer, from your collection, or from the web.
4. Adjust Thumbnail Size Of Project Library
If the number of imported photos and videos are large, you can adjust the size of a thumbnail in the project library.
5. Add Title Card
After importing the videos and photos and adjusting the size of the thumbnail of files in the project library. You can now begin your editing. First of all, you can add a title card to the storyboard if you want by clicking on Add Title Card.
6. Add Photos And Videos To Storyboard
Add the photos and videos that you want to edit from the project library to the storyboard by dragging them to the storyboard. It’s not compulsory to add all the photos and videos at the same time. You can add them to the storyboard from the project library as per your need.
7. Edit Items On Storyboard
You will get many editing options for your photos and videos that are added to the storyboard or timeline. Once you select a particular clip of the video on the storyboard, you will see many options like Split, Trim, Text, Motion, 3D Effects, Filters, and Speed. You can use and edit your videos with these tools as you want simply by clicking on them.
Spit And Trim: You can use these tools to split or trim video clips.
Text: With this tool, you can add texts as a caption for your video clips. There are numbers of animated font styles as well as different layouts of the text to appear on the clips.
Motion: This tool will help you to add motion effects to your clips and photos.
3D Effects: You can also add several 3D effects to enhance your videos.
Filters: You will get a number of good filters that you can apply to your video clips and photos.
Speed: Speed tools will help you to increase or decrease the speed of the video clips.
8. Remove Or Show Black Bars
If there will show black bars for your video clips or photos, then there is an option to remove those black bars too.. With this option either you can show the black bars or remove them. This typically occurs when your video is recorded in portrait mode.
9. Rotate Tool
Suppose you have a video or photo files that have the wrong orientation, then there is an option to rotate that around to get them in the right position.
10. Cut Copy Or Paste On Storyboard
There is an option that you can’t find in the tools section. But you can easily cut or copy any video clips or photos from one place to another. To do so, simply select the video clip or photos that you want to cut or copy and click the right button on your mouse, you will get to see the option of cut or copy. And to paste it, select the clip after which you want to paste that, and click on the right button and paste it there.
12. Add Background Music Or Audio
After almost editing your photos and video clips, if you want to edit some background music to your whole video project then, you can do this too by clicking on the Background Music option. There are many default background music available that you can use. You can even sync this music according to your videos. And this is one of the best things that you can see in any free video editing software.
But if you want to add the custom music of your own choice, then you can do this too. You can add any music or voice over in the video. There is an option called Custom Music for this right after Background Music.
13. Add Themes
There is one thing that Video Editor provides you are applying themes to your videos. In the top-right corner, you will get to see 3 dots. When you will click there, you will get to see an option of Themes. You can choose different themes from here and can apply these to your videos.
14. Preview Your Videos
Now you have completed your editing. So once you can preview your video that you have edited to know if there is everything you have wanted or not.
15. Save The Video Project
Now you can save the video project that you have edited to your device. Click on the Finish Video option, and you will get three different resolutions in which you can save your video. Go for the resolution you want and click on the Export button and your work is done.
